Introduction

There are several types of leaves in a company. However, different companies follow different leave policies. Employers are required to give minimum leave under federal and state legislation. Employer-specific leave policies, on the other hand, vary greatly. Because different industries have distinct labour rules, the nature of the business is an important consideration. Some companies also have leave travel allowance provision that motivates people to take a break and travel to different places.

Types of Leaves in a Company

Now, let’s discuss the different types of leaves in a company:

  1. Earned Leave:  This leave is also called a privilege or annual leave. The naming of this kind of leave differs from company to company. Earned Leave is named because you ‘earn’ these days by working. These leaves are one of the most common types of leaves in a company. You can avail these leaves for different occasions like a vacation, a festival where you are not given a holiday, etc. Generally, people who want to take an extended leave from work avail these types of leaves in a company.
  2. Casual Leaves: Several companies provide casual leaves to their employees. These leaves are given to accommodate any unforeseen condition that might take place at the employees’ end. There are different types of leaves in a company, and hence some companies might choose not to provide casual leaves to their employees. Some people might avail these leaves for personal travel. They can also avail their leave travel allowance if the company has a provision for it.
  3. Sick Leaves: When it comes to types of leaves in a company, sick leaves are the most common. These are granted in the event of illness or an accident. Some employees tend to misuse these leaves, and hence, some companies ask for a medical certificate.
  4. Maternity Leave: Maternity leaves can be availed by women who are pregnant. According to the Maternity Benefit Act of 1961, employers must provide at least 26 weeks of paid leave to a pregnant woman who has worked for 80 days in the past year. Only the first two children are eligible for this leave. A total of 12 weeks of leave can be taken if a third kid is born. Miscarriage, adoption, surrogacy, and tubectomy all need mandatory leave under the Act.
  5. Marriage Leave: A few companies provide small leaves for the employees who are getting married. The marriage-leave can be taken from anywhere between 1 to 15 days. However, most employers give 3 days as marriage leaves as a norm.

For the approval of the leave, the HR department may request either an invitation card or a marriage certificate as documentary verification. Furthermore, the employee is only eligible once for their whole job time with the company. Employees will have to use their annual leave balances or possibly go on leave without pay if they remarry or have several marriages.

Different companies provide different kinds of leaves. All of the leaves listed above are the most common ones. They might have a different name, but they serve a similar purpose. You can also avail of a leave travel allowance if you take a leave for travelling purposes.
